Marina Kokush at The Other Art Fair Los Angeles 2025

Laurence de Valmy

Los Angeles Art Week is in full swing, with the much-anticipated Frieze Art Fair drawing international attention and reaffirming the city’s place as a key cultural hub. No longer just a counterpart to New York, Los Angeles has firmly established itself as an essential destination for contemporary art. Even as the city recovers from recent wildfires, its creative energy remains undimmed.

Among the many events taking place, The Other Art Fair Los Angeles has returned for its 13th edition, running from February 20-23, 2025, at 2800 Casitas Ave in Atwater Village. Known for its unconventional approach, the fair offers a space where independent artists can share their work outside the traditional gallery system, fostering direct connections between artists and audiences. This year also marks the fair’s 100th global edition, highlighting its continued commitment to supporting emerging talent.

Marina Kokush: Sculpting Strength and Fluidity

At Booth 18, artist Marina Kokush presents a collection that explores the interplay between form, movement, and emotion. Working primarily with ceramics, Kokush draws inspiration from the strength and transformation of the female form.

"The female body holds the ability to create life, to change, and to return to itself—an ongoing cycle of resilience and renewal. I try to capture that essence in my work, emphasizing both its fluidity and structure," she says.

Ceramics, with its ability to shift from malleable softness to enduring solidity, is central to her artistic language. She sculpts forms that balance minimalism with expression, creating pieces that invite both visual and tactile engagement.

"I love working with ceramics because it allows me to shape organic, fluid forms while maintaining a sense of timelessness. The surface itself becomes part of the story—whether smooth, raw, or textured like stone," she reflects.

Her work is deeply influenced by both the natural world and human experience, offering a meditative dialogue between strength and fragility. Alongside her sculptural pieces, Kokush also creates functional objects, such as vases, that integrate art into daily life. More than simple decor, these pieces are meant to evoke presence, contemplation, and connection.

Each creation is an invitation—not just to view, but to feel.
