Expanding Horizons: 33 Contemporary Gallery's Journey from Chicago to Palm Beach County
Established in Chicago, 33 Contemporary Gallery has extended its presence to Florida, boasting two locations, with its latest venture being the recent expansion into Palm Beach County. This expansion comes in partnership with Poets and Artists, under the leadership of Didi Menendez and features a diverse selection of works by renowned artists including Junyi Liu, Sally Ko, Florencia Clement de Grandprey, Yunior Hurtado, Victor Gadino, and many more. Noteworthy highlights include Rodrigo de la Sierra, Tim Okamura, and Kathleen Longhurst.
In this interview, we have the privilege of conversing with Sergio Gomez, the curator and director of 33 Contemporary Gallery. Gomez shares insights into the gallery's expansion, its unwavering dedication to supporting artists, and the profound significance of art in transcending geographical and cultural boundaries.
FQM: Sergio, congratulations on the expansion of 33 Contemporary Gallery to Palm Beach County. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this expansion and what it means for the gallery?
Sergio Gomez: Thank you! The expansion to Palm Beach County was a natural progression for us. South Florida's art scene is incredibly dynamic and diverse, and we saw an opportunity to further engage with the vibrant arts community here. Our goal has always been to connect artists with collectors and provide a platform for meaningful artistic expression. The new showroom allows us to extend our reach and deepen our commitment to serving both artists and collectors in the region.
FQM: How does the Palm Beach showroom differ from your Miami location, if at all?
SG: While both locations share the same commitment to showcasing premier contemporary artworks, each showroom has its own unique character and appeal. In Palm Beach County, we've curated a selection of works that we believe will resonate specifically with the local community. We're also excited to collaborate with artists and cultural organizations in the area to further enrich the artistic landscape.
FQM: 33 Contemporary Gallery is known for its diverse selection of artworks. Can you talk about the curation process and some of the artists featured there?
SG: Absolutely. Our curation process is guided by a commitment to excellence and a desire to present works that evoke emotion and spark conversation. In the Palm Beach showroom, visitors can expect to encounter a range of styles and mediums, from figurative to abstract. We're proud to feature works by renowned artists such as Junyi Liu, Sally Ko, Florencia Clement de Grandprey, Yunior Hurtado, and Victor Gadino, Rodrigo de la Sierra, Tim Okamura, and Kathleen Longhurst among others. Each piece has been carefully selected to offer a diverse yet cohesive viewing experience.
FQM: Beyond showcasing art, 33 Contemporary Gallery is also dedicated to supporting artists' careers. How do you envision the gallery contributing to the artistic community?
SG: Our commitment to supporting artists extends beyond the gallery walls. In addition to providing a platform for artists to exhibit and sell their work, we offer advisory services, virtual groups, and other resources to help artists thrive in their creative endeavors. We're excited to collaborate with local artists, cultural institutions, and collectors to foster a vibrant and inclusive arts community.
FQM: One of the recent developments for 33 Contemporary Gallery is having several exhibitions archived as part of the Lunar Codex Project. Can you share more about this initiative and what it means for the gallery and the artists you represent?
SG: The Lunar Codex Project is a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by Dr. Samuel Peralta, aimed at compiling a compendium of art on the moon. We're honored to have several of our exhibitions selected for inclusion in this project, as it underscores the enduring impact of art and its ability to transcend boundaries. For the artists we represent, it's a testament to the significance of their work and its potential to resonate on a global scale.
FQM: Finally, what message would you like to convey to art enthusiasts and collectors in Florida and beyond?
SG: To art enthusiasts and collectors, I would like to extend a warm invitation to visit our showroom and experience the transformative power of art firsthand. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a first-time visitor, we welcome you to explore our curated selection of contemporary artworks and engage with the vibrant artistic community we're proud to be a part of.
