A Community of Care: Annette Duval and Anita Koka on Leading CCMSA to New Heights
The Clark County Medical Society Alliance (CCMSA) is a cornerstone organization in Las Vegas, dedicated to advancing community health and education. Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing its dynamic co-presidents, Annette Duval and Anita Koka, whose passion and commitment to the cause are reshaping the alliance's impact in Southern Nevada. Over an engaging interview, we delved into their vision, their challenges, and the exciting initiatives that are defining their tenure.
With leaders like Annette and Anita at the helm, CCMSA continues to shine as a beacon of hope and support in Clark County, proving that community-driven efforts can create lasting change. Whether through scholarships, healthcare initiatives, or a stunning fashion show, this organization is making its mark—and you can, too.

A Vision of Growth
"Anita and I stepped into this role with a shared goal: to increase membership and strengthen community engagement," Annette began. "We aim to expand our membership by reaching out to new medical professionals and allies who share our values. This year, we're laying the groundwork to make the CCMSA more inclusive and impactful."
Anita added, "We’re not just a medical society; we’re a community. Our focus is on fostering relationships while addressing the health-related needs of Clark County through philanthropy and education."
Indeed, their one-year term has been anything but routine. Their key initiatives include expanding membership, launching innovative programs like "Date Night" for members and their spouses, and supporting impactful health initiatives like the B.E A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation.
Spotlight on the B.E. A S.H.E.R.O Foundation
One of the most inspiring projects under their leadership is the partnership with the B.E. A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation, a nonprofit tackling human trafficking and its consequences. Anita explained, “This initiative provides vital mental health services, laboratory testing, and housing for survivors. It's a comprehensive approach to healing that we’re proud to support.”
Annette emphasized the importance of education: "Through partnerships with the Clark County School District, we’re reaching middle schoolers to teach them about the dangers of trafficking. Education is key—it starts at home, and it’s something we’re deeply committed to."
The B.E. A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation is also working with local medical professionals, such as psychiatrists and social workers, to provide discounted or pro bono services. “This initiative ensures survivors receive proper medical care and support. Housing, for example, is not just a shelter—it’s a foundation for recovery,” Anita noted passionately.
The Healthcare Scholarship Project
Another cornerstone of CCMSA's philanthropic efforts is the Healthcare Scholarship Project (HSP), which has provided over $600,000 in scholarships to local medical and nursing students. Under the supervision of Julie Leon, the program identifies candidates based on financial need, academic excellence, community involvement, and their passion for healthcare.
“Last year, we received 25–30 applications,” Annette shared. “It’s tough to choose, but our goal is to distribute the funds in a way that positively impacts as many lives as possible. These scholarships help alleviate tuition burdens for aspiring healthcare professionals.”
Anita added, “We work closely with local schools to select candidates, ensuring we support those who align with our mission and values. It’s incredibly rewarding to see these students thrive.”
Fashion Meets Philanthropy
CCMSA’s Annual Spring Fashion Show is the highlight of their fundraising calendar. Described as “one of the premier philanthropic events in Las Vegas,” the show draws hundreds of attendees and significant contributions.
"Last year, we partnered with Balmain at the Four Seasons Hotel, and it was a spectacular event," Anita said, her eyes lighting up. "This year, we're thrilled to host the show at the new Durango Casino Resort. It’s a fresh, chic venue that aligns with the elegance of the event."
The show also celebrates partnerships with local boutiques and designers, such as Anne Fontaine and Vasari, blending global sophistication with community spirit. Annette highlighted the importance of these collaborations: “By working with local stores, we support our community while raising funds for our healthcare initiatives. It's a win-win.”
Building a Stronger Community
Beyond these headline projects, CCMSA is actively fostering a sense of camaraderie among its members through monthly luncheons and innovative programs. “We started a Date Night event this year,” Annette shared with a laugh. “It’s a way to bring our hardworking spouses into the fold and share the experience of community building.”

Their holistic approach to philanthropy extends beyond the immediate circle of members. Anita elaborated, “We have sponsors from major medical platforms, physician families, and nursing professionals who contribute to our fundraising efforts. It truly takes a village.”
Looking Ahead
As their term progresses, Annette and Anita remain focused on their core mission while planning for the future. Their dedication to fostering health, education, and community is evident in every initiative.
When asked about their plans for the remaining months, Anita responded, “We’re laser-focused on wrapping up the Healthcare Scholarship Project and preparing for the fashion show. These events are critical to sustaining our efforts and leaving a lasting impact.”
Why Join CCMSA?
For those considering membership, CCMSA offers an unparalleled opportunity to make a difference while connecting with like-minded individuals. As Annette put it, “This is more than an organization—it’s a family. Whether you’re a medical professional or an ally, your contributions matter.”
Anita concluded, “Joining CCMSA means being part of something bigger than yourself. It’s about leaving a legacy of care and compassion.”
How to Get Involved
If you’re inspired by the incredible work of CCMSA and want to be part of its transformative initiatives, consider attending one of their monthly luncheons or volunteering for upcoming events like the Spring Fashion Show. Membership is open to medical professionals, their spouses, and community allies who share the organization’s mission.
